FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be referred by a dentist?

No. We accept referrals from dentists and direct referrals from patients themselves. Many of our patients are referred through word of mouth and we are more than happy to arrange consultations for all patients, no matter the method of referral.

What do braces do?

Braces use gentle forces to move teeth into the positions we want them. They are used to address issues such as crowding (malaligned teeth) and increased overjets (when the top teeth protrude more than the bottom) as well as a range of other dental issues.

What age should I be seen at?

Orthodontic treatment can start at any age. The best time to be seen is between the ages of 8-10. Some orthodontic treatment can be started at a younger age, in other cases, we wait until all the adult teeth are erupted.

How long does treatment take?

Every case is different but most cases taken between 18-24 months.

Will braces affect me playing sport?

No! Mouthguads can be purchased at reception that are specially designed to be worn around braces so that sporting endeavours can still be pursued!

Do braces hurt?

There is no discomfort when the braces are being placed. There can be some discomfort 2-3after the braces are fitted as gentle pressures encourage the teeth to move.

What happens at the first visit?

At the first visit you will meet either Dr. Collins or Dr. Higgins who will carry out a full assessment of your teeth and address any queries you may have about brace treatment. At this visit a general outline of the treatment required will be provided to you.
